Hard to believe Hurricane season is upon us...can't help but thing about flooding...so many times, people say "I'm not in a flood zone..." but the truth is, EVERYONE is in a flood zone...and the majority of people are not insured in the event of a flood.
They either believe incorrectly that their Homeowner's insurance, or Landlord if renting-(not all Landlords have flood insurance, but if they do-it doesn't cover the renter's personal effects), provides coverage...
Homeowner's insurance, Renters Insurance, Fire Insurance-ALL excludes MANY coverages...Flood is one of them...
Some people think it it would never happen to them...or believe if it did...the Government will help them...WRONG!
It can happen to ANYONE, anywhere...regardless of where you live...and the government in some cases offer loans (not free money)-interest loans, but not every one is entitled to them...and the cost of repaying a loan is MUCH more expensive then the cost of insurance.
So, let's talk about what a Flood is...anyone know? Here's a hint..it's NOT just hurricanes...
A flood is a great flowing or overflowing of water, especially over land areas that are normally dry. There are several types of flooding:
Coastal flooding occurs when hurricanes and storms produce heavy rains or drive ocean water onto land. Coastal flooding is also produced by tidal waves created by storms, earthquakes, or volcanoes. Beaches and houses are often swept away by the force of the water.
River flooding is normally seasonal because of snowmelt or heavy rains. The water fills the river basin too quickly and the river flows over its banks. The floodplain becomes covered with water, often damaging homes and other property.
Flash flooding is caused when small and powerful fast-flowing rivers are quickly formed because of excessive rainfall or dam failure, sometimes triggering catastrophic mudslides. Flash floods can be powerful enough to carry away roads, bridges, and other structures, and can occur with little warning.
The funny thing is- most people only buy flood insurance when their mortgage company requires it; and cancel it once the mortgage is paid for...many people incorrectly believe the cost of flood insurance is so high, that they don't even bother getting a quote...the truth is, the majority of homes actually qualify for the Preferred flood premium, a fraction of the cost for homes located in a high-risk area.

2011-Year of Increase-checking in 1/2 through!
New Year's Eve 2010, I received a word from the Lord for the upcoming year for my business, New Kent Insurance Agency. The word was INCREASE. This is what I wrote, and now, half way through, I am sharing what was revealed. Let me know your thoughts!
'2011 will be a year of increase. The number eleven (11) in the purest form represents increase. 1+1=2 (11), which is the number broken down.
The number 11 is the bridge between the lower numbers and the higher numbers...you can't get from primary to upper numbers without it. It represents increase.
2010 was the year for planting- some things take time to yield...2011 will be a year for seeing growth, and increase.
New Kent Insurance is increasing in 2011- we are adding 2 new employees!
Interesting, the number 11 for New Kent Insurance has strong representation. We opened in November 2009. November is the 11th month; adding the digits together in the year 2009 2+0+0+9) =11.
The number 11 means 1 more. (10 means perfection, 1 more is for good measure or extra- for good measure) At New Kent Insurance, we strive to take care of what you need, then look for one more way to help you- one for good measure.
1 by itself is a lonely number-it's not good to be alone. You can't grow by yourself, neither can a business. When 1 adds another 1, you have 2 (1+1/11). The year 2011 represents increase, doubled. (2+0+1+1=2+2 or 4/or 11)

Why do bad things happen to good people?
Many times people who are struggling with 'religion' (which in my opinion, religion is a ploy the devil uses to confuse people seeking a relationship with Christ) and people who are asking a lot of questions about why this, and why that when conversation turns spiritual-it inevitably comes to this: Why does bad things happen to good people? How could a loving God allow such violent acts to occur to little children?
For years living as a christian, since 1976 when I accepted Christ as my savior, this was a question I asked myself too. I struggled with trying to figure out how to respond and how to justify when God didn't do what I thought He should have done, or react the way I was taught He should.
Oh, I knew He loved me, unconditionally-so much that He sent His own son, Jesus to the cross to pay the penalty of my sins so that I wouldn't have to, and so that I would go to heaven. The question asked of me when I was a child was "do you want to go to Heaven when you die?" Of course I did! But to a child, what is Heaven, but a distant place where God lived and 'good' people go when they die. The more I heard about this God, and His amazing love and grace for me, the more I knew in my heart He was real, and that I needed Him. That much I KNEW.
But-if you are taught wrong, you end up believing wrong. All those years, I grew up believing that somehow, when bad things happened to others, and then began happening to me-that it was part of God's plan. That it was His intent and will for bad things happen to teach us a lesson...that I had to trust God-that though I was living a life of pain, with many health complications and facing many surgeries, and eventually getting to the point where I couldn't even stand up straight or walk without excruciating pain and spent more time in a wheel chair than out of one-I was told that "His grace was sufficient-we can't understand God's ways...we have to trust Him-He has a plan; His strength will get you through this...God is using you as a witness to others while you suffer; to keep looking forward to Heaven when the pain and tears will be wiped away, etc".
I believed it; because it was what I was taught by my church. My scattered faith veiled my face, preventing me from seeing the true, genuine nature and character of God. So, I went on struggling, wondering why God would withhold His healing on me, confused why He healed others...and kept asking Him to help me get through the day.
You see, I was a person with immense faith. I clung to Him with every ounce of my being, and loved Him with all of my strength. I read the Bible, and memorized scriptures, and recited them to myself for encouragement when the days and nights were unbearable, and would cry myself to sleep, asking God for help.
Bad things happen-period. In this world, you WILL have many trials. Jesus Christ tells us this in John 16:33. He also said to take heart because He has overcome the world! And in Romans 8:37, He tells us we are MORE than conquerors through Christ who loved us! A friend of mine who witnessed many of my struggles with debilitating pain kept encouraging me to visit the church where she attended, where many people were experiencing miraculous healings like the Bible talked about. I wanted to believe her, but because of how I was taught in my own church, I thought it was a cult-type of church-after all, wasn't God done with the examples of healing and miracles? Wasn't that only for bible times? I was tired of struggling, tired of despair and hopelessness preached in my own church-tired of seeing depressed faces of worshipers who mirrored my own. Wasn't there more out there? Was I missing something? Where was the peace? Stay tuned for the next chapter...and know, God DOES have a plan, and it's a GOOD plan! Wendy
